New Delhi, September 25. “Indian media needs some internal restructuring to cope with the challenges ahead,” said eminent journalist Kuldip Nayar on Monday. “Journalists should unite against any attempt to curb the freedom of the press,” he asserted.

Nayar was chairing a seminar on ‘Corruption and Media” organized by Concerned Journalists’ Initiative, a Delhi based organization.

“The government should constitute a press commission to look into different aspects concerning India media,” he said. “ To fight corruption , we need to have a transparent media and constituting a press commission would be  a long way in this direction,” said Nayar.

“There is an urgent need of imposing restrictions on monopolistic trends in the media ownership and cross media ownership should be regulated,” said Anand Pradhan, the associate director of Indian Institute of Mass Communication. He said this is necessary for democracy within media and to make it more pluralistic.

“There is a need of lobbying on media issues and journalists should regularly interact with parliamentarians to seek their support for their causes,” he suggested.
“There is a need of introspection in media to understand the problems it is facing today,” opined Arun Tripathi, former associate editor of Dainik Hindustan.

Well known social activist Shiv Mangal Siddhantkar said that corruption can't be seperated from exploitation. The exploitaion is the most serious form of corruption.

Anil Sinha, the convenor of Concerned Journalists’ Initiative,  moderated the discussion and  Pranava Priyadarshi, organizing secretary of the organization, purposed vote of thanks.
